Florida is no stranger to hurricanes and other natural disasters, therefore, Florida has 2 separate Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holidays. The first holiday begins on June 1st, the start of hurricane season and the second begins on August 24th, just before the most active part of the season. During this period, Floridians can purchase disaster preparedness supplies without paying sales tax.
Eligible items often include:
- Portable Generators
- Tarps or Waterproof Sheeting
- Non-Electric Food Storage Cooler
- Portable Self-Powered Radios, Two-Way Radios, or Weather-Band Radios
- Batteries: AA, AAA, C, D, 6-volt, or 9-volt

Freedom Month Florida Tax-Free Holiday 2024
Another notable tax holiday is Freedom Month, which celebrates the nation’s independence and encourages outdoor activities.
The 2024 Freedom Month runs the entire month of July. This holiday provides tax exemptions on a variety of recreational items, including, tickets for events such as concerts and sports games, state park admissions, and outdoor gear like fishing supplies and boating equipment. This tax holiday aims to boost local tourism and support the economy by making leisure activities more accessible.
The tax-free items included in the 2024 Freedom Month are:
Admissions:
- Live music events and movies
- Live sporting events
- Museum entry (including annual passes)
- Musical theater performances
- Private and membership clubs provide physical fitness facilities (including season tickets).
Electric Scooters:
- Vehicles with two or fewer wheels, equipped with an electric motor, weighing less than 75 pounds, and designed for a maximum speed of less than 35 miles per hour, priced at $500 or less.
- Boating and Water Activity Supplies: Canoes and kayaks (up to $500), Paddle boards and surfboards (up to $300)
Camping Supplies:
- Tents (up to $200)
- Sleeping bags, portable hammocks, camping stoves, and collapsible camping chairs (up to $50)
- Camping lanterns and flashlights (up to $30).
Fishing Supplies:
- Rods and reels (if sold as a set, up to $150)
- Rods and reels (if sold individually, up to $75)
- Tackle boxes or bags (up to $30)
- Bait or fishing tackle (if multiple items are sold together, up to $10; if sold individually, up to $5; does not include supplies for commercial fishing purposes).
Back-to-School Florida Tax-Free Holiday 2024
One of the most anticipated tax holidays is the Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday. Beginning July 29th and running through August 11th, Florida suspends sales tax on a variety of school-related items.
This tax holiday typically includes:
- Learning aids: like puzzles priced at $30 or less.
- Clothing: Including shirts, pants, dresses, skirts, and jackets with a sales price of $100 or less per item.
- Computers: Computers and related accessories are priced at $1,500 or less per item.
- School Supplies: Items like pens, pencils, notebooks, and binders with a sales price of $50 or less per item.
Tool Time Florida Tax-Free Holiday 2024
The 2024 Tool Time sales tax holiday begins Sunday, September 1 and runs through Saturday, September 7th.
This holiday provides tax relief on the purchase of qualifying tools and equipment as listed below:
